Geraniums Red

Geraniums (Red)

Thought I’d post this sunny one on what is a very rainy day.  One of my few paintings executed entirely en plein air.  A lovely few afternoons of hot sunny summer spent in a friend’s garden.

Autumn Gold

Leaf Dance Crop

This was an enjoyable experiment. I have in my house a collection of dried leaves my sister and family pressed for our family as a part of a gift a few years back., and they were calling out to be used.  The leaves haven’t photographed as well as I’d like – they are gold; warmer tones than in this photo.

Mixed media on canvas. 20 x 20cm. 2012.

Blue Clematis

Clematis - commission, Elphick

This was a commission by a friend who knew that I ‘was arty’ and the first oil painting I’d done after nearly a 20-year gap.  I really enjoyed doing this, and it got me back into painting more seriously, so I am thankful to my friend for asking me.

Oil on canvas. 40 x 40cm, 2003

Rooftop Gathering

Rooftop Gathering Crop

There are a couple flocks of doves around our village and one lot hang out on the rooftop two gardens away.

I like the touches of pink/red in the chimney and in the beaks and claws of the doves set against the soft tones of roof, sky and birds.

Freedom

Freedom Crop

This came about after I made a ‘Welcome Home’ card for my daughter (who had been away for a month or so), with a dancing lady on it a bit like this one, and also I had done a painting called A Fine Day, and I wanted to do another with a similar feel, and also something completely from my imagination.

Acrylic on canvas, 20 x 20cm, 2012.

Beech Wood

Beech Wood

I do love trees.  This painting comes from countless walks through the small beech wood, ten minutes amble from my doorstep.  Love it in the autumn when the golden-brown leaves float down and carpet the ground and let in the bright blue sky, when the winter reveals the tracery of the branches, in the spring with the fresh light green of new leaves, and in the summer when only shafts of sun make it past the shade to the beech wood floor.

Oil on canvas, 30 x 80cm, 2009.

Bridge

Bridge

Not at all what the river is looking like at the moment!  The river has spilled over into the field turning it into a lake, and is nearly over the top of the bridge; the sheep are definitely not grazing. This though is a favourite spot, peaceful and empty of visitors  a lot of the time, but in better weather sometimes a busy-ish  junction for walkers, dog-walkers, kids (and dogs) paddling, picnickers, a horse now and then, cyclists. And the occasional artist.

Oil on canvas, 76 x 60cm, 2012.

Eye on Me, Morning Egg, Single-minded

Chicken theme trio 2

I thought these needed to be seen together and with frames.  A new way of doing things; board on painted board, framed, with no glass for a slightly rustic feel to go with the subject.  I might do some more.
