Green Walk

Green Walk crop

Oh boy, it’s been a long long while since I uploaded anything! After all that grey and brown winter, Spring is here, and before I know it this is what the old Roman route down to the river will look like. Mud and more mud at the moment, but it won’t take long to green up. This is another painting from a few years back while I’m busy producing new artwork.

Blue Clematis

Clematis - commission, Elphick

This was a commission by a friend who knew that I ‘was arty’ and the first oil painting I’d done after nearly a 20-year gap.  I really enjoyed doing this, and it got me back into painting more seriously, so I am thankful to my friend for asking me.

Oil on canvas. 40 x 40cm. 2003 (04?)

Beech Wood

Beech Wood

I do love trees.  This painting comes from countless walks through the small beech wood, ten minutes amble from my doorstep.  Love it in the autumn when the golden-brown leaves float down and carpet the ground and let in the bright blue sky, when the winter reveals the tracery of the branches, in the spring with the fresh light green of new leaves, and in the summer when only shafts of sun make it past the shade to the beech wood floor.

Bridge

Bridge

Not at all what the river is looking like at the moment!  The river has spilled over into the field turning it into a lake, and is nearly over the top of the bridge; the sheep are definitely not grazing. This though is a favourite spot, peaceful and empty of visitors  a lot of the time, but in better weather sometimes a busy-ish  junction for walkers, dog-walkers, kids (and dogs) paddling, picnickers, a horse now and then, cyclists. And the occasional artist.

Wheat

Wheat

Had the Wyeths hovering around in my mind while painting this. I’m glad this is at my mother-in-law’s, because I liked the result, and also it is of a window in the house of some very dear friends, so I’m a little sentimental about it too.

Oil on paper.
